Performance CriteriaWhat you must do. Evidence requirements, can someone clarify.... Does "the assessor must directly observe the candidates work" relate purely to observation of working practices (Watching someone do their job) or can this also cover looking at products, reflective accounts, PD, etc. A clear explanation of the types of evidence utilised for Performance Criteria and that used for Knowledge / Understanding would be helpful. What do you use? Thanks |
Assessor observation must be
Assessor observation must be of actual work carried out as part of the job. Along the same lines product of work is looking at something produced as part of the job and not produced as part of the NVQ.
Discussion of assessment methods in more detail will be part of a new development that we are working on.

So directly observing a
So directly observing a candidates work means physical performance? So where would reflective accounts, case history fit in, as obviously this may only address what they did and how not necessarily why.
p.s. Thanks for prompt reply, look forward to new section / development mentioned.
Perhaps a good way of
Perhaps a good way of thinking about this is to forget about NVQ.
You have a new member of staff and want to know how they are doing (are they performing to the required standard). You might watch them work (observation)and ask them questions about what you see them doing (questioning). For parts of the job that are difficult to watch you might ask them to tell you what they have done in that situation in the past (reflective account)or you might ask 'what if' questions (questioning). You might ask other staff how they are performing (witness statement).
Through the above you will also be assessing their knowledge and its application. Some knowledge may be easier to assess through assignments or questions.
You also need to look closely at the section titled 'evidence requirement' that is in each unit. Using a range of evidence methods will give you a better overall assessment.

Thanks Tom, helpful as
Thanks Tom, helpful as always.
So RA, PD, WT & OBS can all be used to meet (performance criteria / must be directly observed) therefore includes all of these and not just a personal observation?
Any development on the new section you mentioned as pasted below?
